đŹ Hi from TechWalk: If you enjoy something, say something
The magic of word-of-mouth networking.
Welcome to the weekly TechWalk newsletter. We are a networking community for Tech and SaaS professionals that offers weekly walks hosted by industry experts and interesting individuals.
In his book Contagious: Why Things Catch On, Jonah Berger noted that only 7% of word-of-mouth recommendations were digital back in 2016. Today, recommendations across digital platforms are estimated to make up 50-60% of all WOM, and with the rise of influence marketing, people continue to place a priority on personal recommendations over promotional noise.
This rings especially true for networking events but with additional upside for the recommender. Sharing your favorite experiencesâlike ahemâŚTechWalkâactually increases the value for everyone, including you. Unlike that favorite hidden spot you hesitate to tell everyone about, networking communities thrive as they grow, adding fresh energy, connections, and more chances to expand your network.
Why share your experience?
Build momentum on LinkedIn: Share a few highlights and pics from the networking events that you attend. It gives your feed life and makes it easy for new people to connect with you.
Bring in your crew: A thriving community attracts quality people. Sharing helps you pull more great folks into the mix, making events even better for you.
Strengthen your web of connections: When your people join in, it deepens relationships and opens doors to new perspectives and opportunities down the road.
Finally, looking for an excuse to reach out to an old connection this week? Instead of inquiring about upcoming vacation or trips, maybe see what conferences or events they have prioritized. A colleague recently gifted me a pricey +1 ticket that she wasnât able to use during a random catch-up conversation. Boom!
