5.22 TechWalk

Whoā€™s excited about the long holiday weekend? But first we TechWalk šŸ™‚

Letā€™s meet our Co-Hosts

  •  Jeff Bonar, CEO, CapCO2 Solutions - Jeff is an expert at working with disparate stakeholders to deliver complex systems and meet challenges with innovative use of technology. In his work at CapCO2 Solutions, they have gathered input from farmers, chemical engineers, agricultural business leaders, and leaders in decarbonization to serve agricultural communities,  address climate needs, and drive the future of the biofuel business. The biofuels industry has  an amazing ability to harness natural processes to utilize carbon and build useful products. They are building a network of small, modular green fuel factories distributed across the biofuels heartland. Their patented green fuel technology cuts the CO2 footprint in half (GREET verified) and they upgrade existing biofuel  ethanol plants to make valuable new products and deliver $50M new revenues per plant each year. Heā€™s interested in discussing: climate and agriculture focused technologies and starting small tech companies.

  • Abigail Meisterman, UX and Content Strategy Director, MISC - In her former life, Abigail was a young adult librarian at NYPL. In this new era she works in/with agencies, non-profits, education, and tech companies across a range of content-related disciplines. Currently, sheā€™s helping clients with their UX and content strategies with MISC, a digital design and technology agency. Her thoughts on tech ā€œWarily curious: AI is obviously on everyoneā€™s mind and lips, but thereā€™s a lot that can go wrong. (And I donā€™t just mean Terminator-level extinction.) With hallucinations comes a strong need for information literacy. And although itā€™s always been necessary, it isnā€™t everyoneā€™s strong suit and can lead to a lot of misinformation. Weā€™re living in tumultuous times and getting accurate information is incredibly important. Iā€™m also worried about the carbon emissions and how hot this planet is getting!ā€

  • JoĆ£o Ferreira, Managing Director, Runtime Revolution - JoĆ£o has been a software engineer for the past 16 years, with a passion for helping startups bring their innovative ideas to life. He loves collaborating with these young companies, using his experience to build the tech backbone that fuels their products and propels them forward. It's incredibly rewarding to see these startups grow and make a real impact on the world. Heā€™s ready to share his expertise on anything related to building a product, JoĆ£o loves understanding someoneā€™s vision and idea and discussing plans and alternatives to bring it to life. He also likes sharing his professional experience, hoping it will help someone figure out whatā€™s the next best move. šŸ—£ļø Hereā€™s a tip he gives on the approach to networking and professional relationship building:

"Be honest, be real, and be ready to give something. Generosity goes a long way in building professional relationships."

Volunteer with TechWalk for NY TechWeek

Weā€™re hosting an event for NY TechWeek! You could attend five networking events this Spring / Summer or you could volunteer at one and probably achieve the same impact. How? The volunteers at our special events interact deeply with TechWalk community members by leading smaller cohorts of participants, facilitating engagement, answering questions and ensuring folks enjoy their TechWalk experience. Plus we showcase all of our volunteers and yeah, youā€™ll be kinda TechWalk famous. So if you are free on Monday morning June 3rd at 8:00 and would like to supercharge your connections and spark a few new meaningful relationships - sign up to volunteer with us!

NY TechWeek Announcement

Itā€™s happening! Our NY TechWeek TechWalk is on the official calendar.

Our April FINTech Week event attracted close to 300 registrants and a walk that bordered on a march! I guess we were protesting stale networking events?

Weā€™re working hard to finalize all of our headliners, but in the meantime, please meet our anchor Co-Hosts. Connect and let them know you are looking forward to chatting with them on the walk.

Upcoming TechWalk Schedule

Congrats on reaching the end of this newsletter. If you would like information on sponsoring our next edition, being a featured member, or joining a future walk as a Co-Host, simply contact us at [email protected]

Happy Walking,
