šŸ†˜ Hi from TechWalk: Is this your season of giving help or getting help?

Maybe it's a season of both and that's okay too!

HOW is it already March? If January and February were 2024ā€™s dress rehearsal months, March is when it starts to get real. Time to take off those training wheels and make a decision about those New Yearā€™s resolutions once and for all. Were they an optimistic but unrealistic product of Decemberā€™s pressures or are we finally making incremental changes for which our future self will thank us? Iā€™m voting for small incremental changes. And since I know many of you reading this newsletter are focused on improving your professional network - howā€™s that going?

My current approach to networking could best be described as:

Login or Subscribe to participate in polls.

If networking was a goal, and you arenā€™t ready to give up, might I offer a quick suggestion to help you supercharge your efforts?

  1. Decide if you are in a season of giving help or receiving help

  2. If you havenā€™t already done so, sign up for Calendly (thereā€™s a free version) Figure out how much time you want to spend on this activity. Adjust your Calendly settings accordingly

  3. Update your Linkedin profile to highlight the ways that you would like to give help or get help. Mine might look something like this:

    • GIVING HELP - I love helping startups with their GTM strategy - book time with me if you need a sounding board, OR

    • GETTING HELP - Have experience growing a community? I would love to hear your experience. Letā€™s chat

  4. Add a button to your Linkedin profile or update your headline to include your Calendly link. Make a few posts about what you are hoping to achieve. Watch the opportunities to form meaningful relationships roll in.

Now this is the quick and dirty version, but hopefully, you get the gist. Want to discuss in more detail? Drop me a line at [email protected]

This Weekā€™s TechWalk To-Do List

  • Did you know that over 2000 people have signed up for a TechWalk? And that our community grows by about 200 new members each month? Or that thereā€™s an opportunity to be a part of this amazing growth? Thatā€™s right, our TechWalk Ambassador Program is launching on April 1st and applications close this Friday (March 8th). Selected Ambassadors will have the chance to interact with the founders, investors, engineers, marketers, sales, finance and many other teams who are driving the NYC tech ecosystem! One of our candidates said it best when we asked why she was interested in the program - ā€œThis feels like a tech networking hack and Iā€™m here for it!ā€ Application

  • This weekā€™s TechWalk features another superstar roster of Co-Hosts and we hope you will join us.

And if you have the time, we invite you to keep reading!

  • Early pivots to a tech career

  • Folks between roles, seeking their next opportunity

  • People hoping to transition to a new functional area in tech

  • Anybody wanting to improve their networking skills
