✅ OPINIONS WANTED: Do you have experience running a Slack community? Do you belong to a couple of Slack communities and want to share the good, the bad and the ugly? Or maybe you’ve attended a few TechWalks and have some great ideas on how our analog walks could expand into digital spaces. Please pop into my office hours to share your input. BONUS: Folks who provide input will receive the first invites when we launch the TechWalk Slack Community.
✅ WELCOME to the Columbia Business School African Alumni Association! We are excited to bring together members of our communities who have already signed up representing organizations like Nike, Holmusk, USA Today, Spinach Records, The Obama Foundation, Saks, The Bronx Children’s Museum, The Knowledge House and many more.
✅ You probably know our next TechWalk NYC Chapter Director! Next week we will officially kick off our search for a volunteer to help contribute to the future of TechWalk. Ideally looking for a person interested in walking/fitness, tech, community building and the power of relationships. This person should also be a creative soul with a passion for the details that transform ideas into reality. Someone who could benefit from thousands of new Linkedin connections maybe because they are looking for a new role or growing their business would probably be very excited to learn about role. If this is you or someone you know, please get in touch [email protected]

TechWalk Community Poll
I recently listened to the AI and the Future of Work podcast episode featuring Dr. Seth Dobrin, author of AI iQ for a Human-Focused Future: Strategy, Talent, and Culture and Founder of Quantm AI. In this episode, the speakers discussed our current immersion in an industrial revolution that is playing out before our very eyes and the right way for companies to think about this AI-wave that will absolutely eliminate, but also create jobs.
Dr. Dobrin, shared his own example of when he was responsible for the transformation of a business division at Monsanto. He chose to lead with truth and transparency. Upon arrival he told his team that as a result of his work, their jobs would not exist in 6 months. But they would be given the opportunity to transfer into one of the four new types of roles that would be created. Their choices were to 1) take the courses and earn the certifications that would prepare them for the new role or 2) take a severance package, a glowing referral and help finding a new role in their current area of expertise. The results:
40% took the training and the new roles
30% left to find new opportunities before the 6 month period came to an end
10% stayed for the 6-month period and then took the severance package
If you were faced with a similar choice on Monday morning, which would you choose? |
